Meet Maija Grisa(she/her), LMSW
Therapist | Advocate | Founder
Hi, I’m Maija (pronounced My-Uh), the founder of Glimmer Counseling, and I’m here to support you in finding the healing, clarity, and strength you deserve. As a queer, neurodivergent, woman of color, and an adoptee from foster care, I understand how crucial it is to feel seen, heard, and valued for who you truly are. My life experiences have deeply shaped my approach to therapy, and I am committed to creating an inclusive, empathetic space where you can bring your whole self—without fear of judgment.
My wife and I have adopted two amazing boys from foster care, and our whole family is proudly neurodivergent. As a parent, I understand the unique challenges and rewards that come with raising children from diverse backgrounds, and I bring that perspective into my work with families and individuals. Whether you are navigating identity, relationships, or mental health struggles, I believe in the importance of meeting you where you are—always with compassion and understanding.
As a therapist, I work collaboratively with you, recognizing your strengths while gently guiding you toward personal growth, healing, and empowerment. My approach is trauma-informed and intersectional, taking into account the complexities of identity—whether that be through gender, race, neurodivergence, or your unique life experiences. I specialize in supporting those who hold marginalized identities and believe in dismantling the power imbalances often present in therapy settings. I’m here to help you explore solutions that work for you—on your terms. I believe in a holistic, integrative approach that includes not only talk therapy but also techniques and tools tailored to your specific needs, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), EMDR, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).
In addition to my training as a social worker and therapist, I’m a creative, a big fan of cooking, and a proud pet parent to my dog, Louie. I bring my sense of humor and down-to-earth personality into my work, because I believe healing should feel authentic and grounded—like talking to a trusted friend who happens to be a licensed therapist.
It would be such a privelege to walk with you through your journey, offering support, tools, and techniques that are tailored to your needs. If you’re ready to take the first step toward healing and personal empowerment, I’d love to connect and see how we can work together.
